Kuroshitsuji – 01

In most posts I’ve read, Kuroshitsuji has been compared to Hayate no Gotoku. Well, when I first read the manga, I compared it to Hayate as well but when I re-think it, Kuroshitsuji is much closed to Count Cain/Godchild.  Both have an english setting, a handsome young noble and an equally attractive butler as well as gothic/horror themes.

The quality of this episode surprises me. The animation is so fluid and shiny and the overall episode was absolutely beautiful. Of course, the voice acting is as great too. I’m sorry Hakushaku to Yousei but I have not the time to blog you. The first episode has failed to impress me enough despite Midorin’s and SugiTomo’s presence (Midorikawa Hikaru and Sugita Tomokazu). I’ve officially decided to get my bishies and English dose from Kuroshitsuji. This episode was far too amazing. Ah ~ Sebastian ~

What’s up with all the symbolic openings I’ve been seeing lately? I haven’t read past the first few chapters of Kuroshitsuji manga so I know virtually nothing. But I’ll take a guess.  Ci-chan is dead. His disappearing by Sebastian’s touch in the OP tells me that whatever contract was done between these two it has something to do with Ciel’s life. I won’t dare make up anything else since I might be way off already.

Meet the Characters ~

Ciel Phantomhive. 12 years old. Real smart and cunning. So much it reminds me of Artemis Fowl back in the first novel (when I liked him best). I like Sakamoto’s boy-voice better on Ciel than I did Kugimiya with Miharu. At least Ciel really does sound like a boy. A damn cute/scary one at that. Did you hear that whispering when they were traumatizing the italian visitor? Scary.

Sebastian. Ciel’s butler, bodyguard, and whatever else. He’s a bishie. He’s strong. He’s perfect. And, this isn’t a spoiler considering how obvious they made it, a demon with whom Ciel made a contract. I can’t wait for next episode when we get to see him kick ass! OnoD’s doing a great job as usual. I’m sort of demanding a SebastianxCiel + YoitexMiharu crack soon. Both pairings are way too close in appearance. Only in appearance!

Last but not least, the bumbling trio+Tanaka who isn’t in the shot: Finny, Meirin and Bard. I’m loving that Kaji Yuuki’s appearing more and more often in anime. I’ve been looking forward to hearing more of him since Kotoba Nante Iranai. So far, I’ve heard him in Yozakura Quartet (which I won’t be blogging unfortunately), the Kotoba Nante Iranai’s sequel as well as in a few other drama CDs. Kaji’s voicing Finny by the way ~ Gods is he adorable!

I don’t think the non-BL-fangirls would agree with me but, Kaji Yuuki’s voice is pretty similiar to Shimono Hiro’s when you first hear it. I say this because Shimo-chan often does pretty gentle characters in BLCDs and the voice he uses is really close to Kaji’s normal voice. Well, it was a good thing in Kotoba nante Iranai since their characters were twin brothers. Anyways, I reallly grew to like this guy from the few drama CDs I heard him in. It didn’t take long before his voice sounded like his own and not Shimo-chan’s ~ And plus, he voices such a cute guy in Kuroshitsuji! I can’t help bu squeal.

I’m loving what A-1 did with Kuroshitsuji. The excecution was beautiful; managing to jump from serious, scary, elegant to funny. The jokes weren’t as funny as they were in the manga but I’ll forgive that since the anime is trying to go for a more gothic mood.

Did I mention the bishie shots? I think this is anime that got the most screenshots so far. I took over 20 in the first five minutes!

THIS IS MY PASSION FOR FOOD!

WHO’S THE FOOL WHO PUT ANTIQUE BAKERY IN MAH KUROSHITSUJI?!

Which reminds me of how I haven’t finished that anime yet. Hmmm …

This was the best part of the episode. I couldn’t stop thinking “this is so awesome!” during the whole “scaring the italian faggot” segment. At first I was wondering what the hell Ciel was doing being so pushy about the board game … it makes sense after what they did to torture this guy. Can you believe they lured him into an oven? The music was tense and scary the whole way and Ciel’s whispering made the mood even tenser. Bard and Finny randomly appearing carrying the portrait was funny but it was done so that the serious mood wasn’t lifted that much. The scary came back fast and it was too fucking awesome. I’m loving this anime. Ah, A-1 ~ you’ve come a long way!

Why couldn’t Skip Beat’s first episode have this much quality? Kuroshitsuji’s first episode was perfect in every sense. The music always fit. The animation was fluid. The designs beautiful. The excecution perfect. If the quality keeps up, Kuroshitsuji is bound to my favorite of the season.

Chibi EDs are win. Don’t the two look even more like Yoite and Miharu this way? And I find it awesome how the ED is sung by some relatively unknown american singer. Becca or something. It was well … different. Somehow, it reminded me of how much I can’t wait for next year when Himeka-chan will sing the OP on some aniplex anime.

Ah ~ I love my bound boys <3 I really really can’t wait for next week to see Sebastian be the awesome butler that he is.

So need I repeat again? I’m loving this anime more than anything I’ve watched of Fall so far. I’m going to do my post about the other stuff I watched tomorrow. Damn am I proud of myself for writing all these anime posts. I didn’t think I’d be able to do it but I did it all! As I mentionned higher up, I’m not doing Hakushaku to Yousei anymore. When Junjo Romantica airs this weekend I’ll definitely blog it … no matter what. As for Chaos Head, I’ll see if I’ll blog it or not when it airs. Personally, I think I’ll have my hands full with the five I’m blogging already. Yes I counted Junjo.

  1. The Lemon Meringue Pie sealed the deal for me =D

  2. That intermission eyecatch was weirdly awesome, and gave the show a more theatrical, refined feeling.

  3. God Child was my exact though as well when I first saw this. This is probably my favourite of the season too.
