Aah ~ I’m broke again.
Christmas has passed and so has half of my vacation. I’ve already spent every cent I’ve received for the holidays. I’m not sure whether I regret it or not. I don’t think I do. I’m actually quite happy. I probably won’t be later on though. But for the moment, I’ll enjoy my state of bliss.
(Much to my surprise, my dad bought me a frikken flatscreen for x-mas. I never expected that, considering how he’s the one complaining about the bills all the time. And yes, I’m enjoying my newfound space amd 22 inch goodness)

I had about 300$ to spend. Not much, but hey, I’m poor. I can’t wait ’til I’m old enough to get a part-time job. It sucks when your parents don’t even give you an allowance. Anyways, more than half of the money had to go to buying a new coat and a new pair of boots. I only had about a 100$ or so to myself so I went and got myself “Chrono Trigger” because I know it’s an awesome game. I had tried it beforehand already so I knew I wanted it. Plus, I’ve got a thing for classics. I spent the rest of my money on manga.
I need to ask my dad to make a shelf for my manga. They’re all cooped up in my old room and it’s a nag to have to go there to get my manga. I need in my room whithin my reach. And plus, they don’t all fit on my old shelves anyway.

Actually, I already had “After School Nightmare” v.01 and 02. I just put ‘em side by side because it looked cooler. I’ve got ‘em in French because Chapters (here) hasn’t got ‘em. The title is “L’Infirmerie après les Cours“, which is a crappy title if you ask me. French manga titles tend to suck more because they are most often translated horribly … they’re worst off than most English titles.
Anyways, six more volumes of After School Nightmare and it’ll the become the second series I bought all the volumes of. Chobits is the first and that was six or seven years ago. I’ll admit I like this series more though. Murder game, people vanishing, a love triangle, a half-man/woman … Wow, I’d love if this had a Drama CD. The other French-translated manga I bought is “Si ton Rêve se réalise …” which is “If you dream comes true …” I think it’s a compilation of one-shots. I didn’t read it yet.
But on an awesome note. Rénaud-Bray (a french bookstore here) is widening their stock. They never sold anything remotely close to BL before (or was I just blind?) and just a couple of fanservice/ecchi manga (or were they hidden from sight?). I mean now, I’m seeing BL everywhere and bunch of other titles I don’t even see available in the English bookstores here (I found Dogs: bullets and carnage …ultimate surprise). Thank you Asuka for publishing many of the BL titles in French I see! I think I’ve just found newfound love for French manga. I mean, they’re cheaper than the English ones and some of them pwn English translations.
Okay wow, I ranted a little too much.

The other two were worth my money too. I’m surprised I didn’t find a Drama CD for “Alley of First Love” … Maybe there are enough childhood friends falling in love stories out there. Still, it was cute. “Fallen Love” was great too. It had bishies and fantasy-storyline. It was a compilation of one-shots more or less related. I absolutely loved the one with the magic user who wanted to die but couldn’t.
Death Note vol.01 was a gift. I read it even though I already did online. It just goes to show I like reading manga with the volume in my hands rather than online. I feel like I can appreciate the art more when I own it. I can spend more time staring at the art, that is, because my eyes won’t turn red.

and something I drew because I love plugging myself
A lot of my friends tell me I’m wasting money because I can read manga online for free. But I don’t think that’s really right. I don’t think I need to explain myself on this either since I think most understand already. On one hand, I buy manga because I like owning the volume. I also buy them because I love the fun of going to a bookstore and browsing for a manga. I love spending hours deciding on which one I should spend my money on and which manga can wait until I’ve got more money. I normally go to the store intent on buying something but I always change my mind and try something else. It’s fun and I’m helping the industry. I don’t think it’s a waste at all. The only time I did was when I bought “Twelve”. Gods, that was an utter waste of money.
Well, my mom thinks it’s a waste of money to buy manga. I think she’d rather I buy new clothes to wear and stuff. But honestly, what lasts longer? The manga or the clothes? (IT’S THE MANGA!!! And besides, I wear a uniform to school)
Okay, wow. I wrote too much. Apologies.
wow that’s awesome haha flat screen ^^ major improvement right XD
happy new year in advance ^^
I don’t think it’s a waste to buy manga! I have shelves of them! And yeah, my mum complains about it too… But i think to buy the book is to support the mangaka right? Which all fans should do. =) You’re a good one!!! Moreover, we all know it feels good to own one copy. I like the feel of it in my hands. =)
Happy new year~
cool.haha
good for you, prioritizing manga(nice analogy by the way)
i only read manga online since (I think) i am still not capable of owning such, its pretty expensive and unpopular in my place(sigh)
but i long to own many
Manigong (happy) 2009
I only own like, four volumes of manga because 1) My parents do not give me an allowance, and 2) My parents are always with me when I’m shoping, and I’m paranoid about certain things being read, like Loveless. I know, Loveless is hardly anything to worry about. But yeah…
