“Why? The answer is obvious.” -conceited pose- “Because I want to.”
Usagi is bad in the morning
The episode starts off with Misaki preparing the table and him and Usagi having a nice breakfast together. Oh wait, pardon me. Suzuki-san has a place at the table too. After the OP, Misaki does a little summary of his situation. As the two eat breakfast, Usagi eventually suggests bringing Misaki to school. Well, not really suggests since the guy INSISTS on it. Misaki ends up acquiescing without a word.
Breakfast done, Misaki is washing the dishes when Usagi comes up from behind him and, obviously, harrasses him a bit. Misaki breaks free and tumbles on a pile of Usagi’s manuscripts. He picks one up and reads his name in an “uncomfortable situation”. Misaki complains that Usagi shouldn’t use his name without permission but Usagi explains that he wrote in the “This is a work of fiction” crap into the book. Misaki, looking more cute than angry, screams that that’s not the problem and tears the pages to bits telling Usagi that he won’t be able to publish a book with the pages torn. Usagi then takes out a disk and calls Misaki an idiot. Not willing to back down, Misaki complains further, asks him why he does that (i.e: use his name) and says that it’s blatant sexual harrasement … to which Usagi condescendingly replies “because I want to”.
Moving on, Usagi, as promised, brings Misaki to school. As Misaki leaves the car, the other students watches him with strange eyes and, when he passes through, they avoid him. Even in the classroom he gets ignored and while pondering his situation he trips and falls. That’s when Sumi Keiichi makes his appearance and invites Misaki to sit down with him. The two talk and when Misaki introduces himself, Sumi asks why Misaki’s surname isn’t “Usami”. He then explains to Misaki that the reason that everyone’s avoiding him is because of Usagi (basically because Usagi’s car stands out, he’s a famous writer and everyone else in the school are normal citizens). Misaki replies that he’s completely normal and that through some strange circumstances he’s currently living with Usagi. After the hearing the reason, Sumi finally introduces himself and Misaki goes into full happy mode.
After school, Misaki talks about Sumi to Usagi (who is obviously acting jealous) and tells him not to hang out with guys like Sumi. Misaki complains some more but Usagi then mentions Takahiro’s name. The conversation stops.
At home, Takahiro calls and Usami takes the phone. Misaki, already feeling bitter, goes to the kitchen to prepare dinner and thinks about what he is to Usagi. He comes down to the conclusion that he’s his brother’s replacement.
Back at school, Sumi and Misaki are having lunch. Sumi points out that Misaki always talks about Usagi. Misaki apologizes but Sumi says he doesn’t mind that Misaki should keep talking. (insert gay laughter)
Sumi: It’s okay. Keep talking. The way you talk is gives off this “I’m doing my best” feeling. I like it.
Meanwhile, in some office, Usagi spies on Misaki (and Sumi) from the window. Kamijo Hiroki walks in telling Usagi not to use his office as some place to read. After a short exchange, Usagi looks back out the window to Misaki and Sumi laughing and having fun. He kicks the wall bitterly.
Fast forward to after school, Usagi is at the entrance waiting for Misaki who, when he arrives, tells him he’s going out somewhere with Sumi and that Usagi can eat ahead without him. Jealous, Usagi says refuses to let Misaki go. Some group of people call out to Misaki and Sumi tells him to go tell them that their both going on a “date”. With Misaki gone, Sumi tells Usagi he read his book but he was too stupid to understand it (Oho!).
Misaki comes back and Usagi forcibly tries to get Misaki into the car. The two argue and Usagi mentions Takahiro’s name again. Misaki complains and tells Usagi that it’s annoying how Usagi is always looking out for him. Immediately regretting his words, Misaki tries to rephrase but Usagi takes the oppurtunity to get Misaki in the car.
At home, Misaki answers the phone, it’s Sumi, Usagi hangs up. The phone rings again, Usagi answers, it’s Takahiro, Misaki hangs up.
Misaki still tries to leave but Usagi pushes him onto the couch and kisses him (yeah, even without knowing anything, anyone would know where this is going). Misaki pushes him off saying he isn’t Takahiro’s replacement and starts crying. Usagi pats his head and explains exactly how the hell he fell for Misaki when he was so damn in love with Takahiro. He then says that he doesn’t lose Misaki who finally realizes that Usagi was jealous of Sumi. Smex ensues.
((The kana up there is “Suki”, btw))
After the ED scene
Usagi: Good Morning
Misaki: Good Morning … What are you making?
Usagi: Usami-sensei’s fluffy omelette special deluxe
Misaki: Could it be that he made it for my sake?
Misaki: Um … Usagi-san, I’m sorry for saying harmful things yesterday. I really feel bad.
Usagi: It’s okay. I did make you cry for different reasons anyway too.
Misaki: Ugh, this guy!
Misaki: Hello? Oh, senpai? I’m really sorry about yesterday…Yeah, today …Huh?
Misaki: WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! SO IMMATURE!
Usagi: I don’t want anyone else bothering the time we have to gether.
Misaki: I won’t let myself fall into his pace!
Misaki: Not noticing I let myself fall into his pace*, Takahashi Misaki. This was my 18th autumn.
Usagi: This is kinda good …
*: I’m honestly unsure what he really said there but maybe it’s something close?
This episode was win. Ultimate win. The animation was better (MISAKI!), the jokes had impact and the overall was just really well done. The only flaws this episode was probably the number of flashbacks, the generic sound effects and lack of BGM but I’ll forgive them because I’m happy at how cute Misaki’s become. This is my opinion, my I have to say that funniest scene this episode (and there was a lot) was from when Misaki found his name in Usagi’s manuscript to Usagi’s condescending reply.
We’re also introduced to two recurring characters this episode. Namely, Sumi and Hiroki. Sumi doesn’t really have a big role until volume six or something soo … onto Hiroki.
Kamijo Hiroki, Usagi’s childhood friend as well as a teacher at Mitsuhashi (Misaki’s school). More importantly he’s the uke of the second couple in the Junjo Romantica series “Junjo Egoist”. We’ll be fully introduced to him in episode three.
((The anime better not ruin the Egoist stories. But with how good this episode turned out, maybe I’m worrying for nothing. I demand my “Hiro-san”s NAO!))
Oh wait! I’ve forgotten one.
No one else noticed probably, but the teacher who has a line while Misaki and Sumi are talking for the first time is Miyagi You, the seme of the third couple “Junjo Terrorist”. He gets a few cameos with Hiroki before his actual main appearance as seme in Junjo Terrorist.
Honestly, it made me laugh how they put him in this episode so randomly. You can’t even see the guy’s face but if you listen a few times, you’ll recognized Inoue Kazuhiko’s voice. Or am I the only capable of that?
JUNJO EGOIST NEXT EPISODE!
