Chocolate is bad for you!
Chocolate Underground
Chocolate is banned after 5 o’ clock by law. That’s basically the premise of Chocolate Underground. I didn’t understand the complicated talk but it’s not hard to understand what’s going on anyway. The first [less than five minute] episode starts off with some sort of Chocolate Police ravaging somebody’s home just because they broke the Chocolate law. I LOL’d so hard because it was just so utterly ridiculous! But then I under-estimated Toshokan Sensou and it turned out to be great so I continued watching. After all, the episodes are so short that it doesn’t really matter. Did I mention how they destroyed the people’s home with a frikken mech?
The story is about two boys, Huntley [dark-haired] and Smudger [blond] who start bootlegging chocolate.
In the first two episodes, the actual bootlegging don’t even start. We are basically introduced into what kind of world the characters are living in and that’s about it. I find the whole “Good for You!” video absolutely ridiculous. Ridiculous. Ridiculous! How many times have I said it now? Oh and there’s a whole mini-love story going on with the two boys liking the same girl [named Louise, I think]
If Chocolate is banner after five then why not just eat it beforehand? That’s what I don’t get. Well, from what I can gather, Chocolate isn’t sold anywhere and all sweets are replaced by some disgusting health food. What I think is that they start hunting for people with chocolate after five. So if its in that sense, I guess it makes sense.
Impressions:
The premise is ridiculous. I can’t say that enough. But considering how short the episodes are I don’t really mind watching it. For all I know, things might get interesting in a while … since the bootlegging still hasn’t started yet. I’m probably going to follow this for a while longer since I’ve got nothing to lose. [I got RAWs for episodes one and two in Tokyo Toshokan]
[…] My first impressions here. […]
I’m not sure about the chocolate being banned after 5 thing though I’ve read it in most of the summaries before the show started airing, but didn’t catch any allusion to it during these episodes. It looked like a full out ban on chocolate to me, which may or may not make the premise any more ‘believable’.
That’s what I thought too. It looked like all sweets were banned to me so I’m kinda confused about the whole “5 o’ clock” thing. =.=;;
From the original website
http://www.choco-bar.jp/intro/story.html
the synopsis says,
「本日の午後5時から、チョコレートを禁止する」
which translates to
“Staring from 5pm today, chocolate will be prohibited.”
So, it’s not just a daily thing.
