I finally finished the rankings. Their very unstable but I had to make a decision eventually. Now, every Monday for ten weeks I shall rant- er, talk about one of my favorite male anime characters. I even went through the effort of keeping it one character per anime and plus, all of them are voiced by different people. It was hard to narrow it down to ten and even hard to place them a certain order … but okay, I digress. Number Ten on my list is Tamaki Suou, a guy I’m pretty sure everyone knows at this point. It hurt me to put a guy like him in tenth place but I had no choice … I like everyone else better.
(Note: I’m talking about anime-Tamaki in this rant. I haven’t read the Ouran manga)
Tamaki Suou
is voiced by Miyano Mamoru in the anime and Midorikawa Hikaru in the early Drama CDs. He’s the king of the Host Club and receives about 70% of the requests. His personality can be described in three words: annoying, narcissistic and over-emotional. Not very pleasant characteristics and yet we love him all the same.
Tamaki has always been my favorite in the host club. Only sometimes do the twins pass him. I’ve loved him since episode one. It was hard not to like someone as vain and entertaining as Tamaki. At the end of the first episode, his more naive and puppy-like side was shown and I loved him even more.
Despite his personality, he’s quite suave with the ladies. What’s more is that his antics doesn’t ever seem insincere and its because he truly means his compliments. He can get very over-emotional and sensitive at times but he really cares about the people around him and he’s always sincere. But because of his overreacting, he comes off as really childish and people (like Hikaru and Kaoru) tend to take advantage of that.
Tamaki is the knot that ties everyone in the host club together. Without him, there would be no host club. It’s not often the rest of the hosts show it, but they are really grateful towards Tamaki in that sense.
I always tend to like characters like Tamaki. As in, the characters who have all the reason to be miserable and yet stand strong. Tamaki can never see his mother again, his grandmother hates him … and well, so on. Really, that’s enough for anyone to get depressed and yet Tamaki never shows it. I sort of envy that from them. It’d be great to have to ability to honestly enjoy yourself when things aren’t right. Tamaki, despite everything, is always cheerful. He’s always enjoying himself and having fun even if the joke’s on him.
Another part of him I love is his naivety … which is another point a lot of my favorite characters have. It’s a trait I find extremely adorable and entertaining when taken advantage correctly. Tamaki never means anything wrong by his actions but they can often be misinterpreted. He’s so cute whenever he’s misunderstood that it’s unbearable.
Tamaki is a kind of person I wish I knew in RL. He’s someone I can laugh at and rely on at the same time. Sincere at times. Vain at times. Naive at times. It’s everything about Tamaki that can make me smile and laugh. Technically, its the twins I love more than Tamaki in the Host Club (I kinda lied earlier) … but there’s a reason I chose Tamaki over them.
When I tried thinking of the reasons I loved the twins this is what came up: Hot, Twincest, Twincest, Twincest, Angst and more Twincest. Honestly, angst, hotness and twincest didn’t seem like rational reasons to like a character. It was more a guilty pleasure than anything to like them. That’s why I chose Tamaki. Because yes, he is attractive and has a totally slashable relationship with Kyouya but those aren’t the reasons I love him so much. I thought it more reasonable in the end to like Tamaki than the twins.

Well, that’s done … but since I want to have fun, I’ll drop hints about next week’s character:
He has a peculiar name and is voiced by a seiyuu with a peculiar voice. He’s from a series with both and anime and a manga. It’s a series set in an era of Japan loosely based off the Taisho period. He’s appearance can defy the law of age. He loves money (moreso in the manga) and is pretty devious.
Nice job … Thanks
here some good Anime Wallpapers

love love love tamaki’s character. though i like kyoya because he’s the glasses character ^^ but as i said, he’s my fave although his manga counterpart is starting to frustrate me… -_-
Mori 4tw plx! Okay, enough spamming for one day 😛
(Yea, Tamaki’s awesome in my books too ;P)
Aw, Tamaki is really sweet. He’s not on my top ten, but I love him too. ^__^
Actually, the twins are my favorites, but it’s like you said: Hotness, Angst and Twincest are not reasonable reasons to love a character. xD
The next on the list… is Kantarou? From Tactics? 8D
@ biankita: Kyouya’s on my list of favorite megane characters though … =D But I don’t go megane moe as much as I used to for some reason …
@ issa-sa: >.> I don’t like Mori all that much. Sure he’s the giant teddy bear character but … meh
@ yuu: -gasps-! You go it! o.o And here I was trying not to give too much away.
Tamaki definitely deserves to be on a list like this. The only “prince” character that’s ever gotten more than, “lame” from me. He’s just so goofy and lovable~! And he’s just such a good person too. Especially in the manga.
Yeah…if I ever end up doing my top ten guys too, Tamaki would probably have to be somewhere on my list too.
[…] guess by Yuu last week, this week’s character is none other than Ichinomiya Kantarou from the manga and anime […]
