The stupidest and worst possible thing happened to me yesterday. My computer has been rendered useless. I say useless and not completely useless because, as you can see, I’m still using the damned thing to type this post. If you care the least bit, this is where the WTFs come up … so I’ll start from the beginning if you’re bored enough to enjoy my stupidity and pain. I’m sounding extremely bitter aren’t I? Moving on …
So yesterday was like every other day. I come home, check some stuff, then run off to iAnti to roleplay. That’s been the routine for a week and half now. I had some homework to do but was procrastinating and had a few RPs left to reply to but was feeling uninspired. I decided to look for a torrent for Open Canvas because I wasn’t satisfied with version 1.1. I find a direct link. Click it and, get fucking infected by four fucking viruses that won’t fucking go away anymore. I shouldn’t be swearing but damn, I got pissed at my own carelessness. I’m normally really safe when it comes to downloading because I know this PC won’t survive if it gets infected with something major. It’s been put together by my Dad and thus … no boot CD, I can’t start from scratch. I can’t do a thing. I’ve already tried everything possible. I’ve sacrificed precious sleep to salvage my crappy but “at-least-it-worked-well” computer. I was pretty happy with this computer and I’m kind of attached to it since its the first that completely belonged to me. Anyone else understand this stupid kind of emotional attachment to a non-living, non-breathing object?
Basically, I’ve failed. I can’t get this computer to work smoothly anymore. In the past, I’ve been able to fix all the problems and fend off spyware and viruses and whatever … but yeah, I’ve failed this time.
When I turn on the computer, it runs like normal but at my desktop, I’m greeted by random shortcuts to “free spyware” and “animal pr0n” -sighs- then, “DISINFECT YOUR PC!” and other spam pop-ups every few moments. The moments between pop-ups get shorter as time goes on and eventually I.E starts spamming me too. No program aside firefox will open. All of my files are infected and it’s forever writing “VIRUS ALERT!” in the corner of my screen. Sigh. (Yes, I really did mean the “animal pr0n” thing)
As I type this, I’m struggling to fend off all the damned pop-ups. It’s hard and fucking annoying. My iPod is dying and I’m desperate to put songs in it but I’m too afraid to plug anything into this PC. I’ve somehow managed to save all my files. My 160GB worth of anime, 110GB worth of Drama CDs and the rest of my pictures, manga and crap. They’re all saved. The only thing I couldn’t save from the viruses in time was my music. Luckily it’s all in my iPod and I can just download them again when I obtain a new computer which probably won’t be in the near future. The fact that my files were saved is the reason I’m not all that pissed about this situation. Okay sure, I’m pissed but less than I could it be. Way less.
We’re lacking in money and I have no idea when my Dad can get me a new computer. Hopefully it’s soon. Luckily this week-end I’m going to be volunteering for the Dragon Boat competition which will have me waking up at 4AM and coming home at 7PM both on Saturday and Sunday. Plus, with school, I might be able to survive at least until next Friday without my own computer. Hopefully I can work something with my Dad before then.
Well that’s it. I’m going to go be depressed about all this for a while longer and wait for my Dad so we can discuss this because I can’t live without a PC of my own. God knows how much I’ve been wanting a new one anyway. Farewell Set-chan, I shall miss you.
Oh yeah, this basically means I won’t be posting ANYTHING until I get a new computer. My blog will probably die and get buried under but okay … I think I can take that. Ugh, no anime for me either it seems … then again, I was already lagging behind anyway. Well, goodbye until then blogosphere.
(No fucking pictures because the damn shits won’t even open, how much should I bet on this post getting less than a 100 clicks?)
