Why do I feel like Skip Beat’s moving a little too slowly? Or is it because I’m just looking forward to things that won’t be happening for a while? Corn being mentionned in this episode is probably what did me in. That definitely makes up for Ren not showing up (out of Kyoko’s mind) … though, I’d prefer he get actual screetime.
This episode covers Kyoko getting dropped out of the auditions, depressing over it and, at the end, getting back up again. After reading about Skip Beat’s BGMs over at Simplicity, I decided to pay attention to it this week and I’d say to say I agree. First off, the daikon act’s music was odd. It sounded like those old RPGs battle themes. But what really made me sad was this particular scene:
As I said last time, Skip Beat’s lacking a lot of impact. The music I can bear with, but I won’t tolerate this blandness. This time around, both bothered me at the same time. The scene was well done. Kyoko’s expressions were perfect. Inoue was great to. But playing the opening’s instrumental theme during that scene was a bad choice. It didn’t suit the scene at all. Sure, the theme had a nice nostalgic and bittersweet tune to it but … it was much sweeter than bitter. Some of the tracks are really beautiful in Skip Beat but I feel as if they aren’t playing them at the right time.
Another thing I’d like Hal Film Maker to work on is the excessive use of blank white backgrounds. There are better ways to emphasize scenes like this right?
And since I’ve been nothing but complaining, let’s do some complimenting. The scenes are pretty well animated if you ask me. Nothing amazing of course. But it’s cute and it was potential. Now if only they’d work on the backgrounds and BGMs! Maybe we’ll have some impact. THOUGH! The chibi scenes are well done and it seems they’ve gotten hang of animating Kyoko’s evil aura.
This was probably the most well done scene of the episode, IMO. The music was a little extreme but it was better than the rest. I’m really loving Inoue’s ability to portray Kyoko’s moodswings. It must be harder than anyone thinks.
This is before I started liking Moko (Kanae) in the manga … and I still dislike her in this point on the story. I’ll admit they animated her pretty nicely. She’s way prettier than Kyoko, who in the manga, I found prettier.
Sachou! I LOVE MEGANE.
I’m sad about how he doesn’t leave much of an impression on you in the anime. But,
This was too cute. I liked it more than in the manga. FOR ONCE. We’re getting somewhere Hal Film Maker!
I love the chibi-Kyoko scene but not because of her really. I just have a strange fetish for Japanese country accents. Odd how Kyoko doesn’t have one.
Ah, I remember how damn confused I was during this scene of the manga. I was like ‘huh, did I miss something?’ … Well, feels nice knowing what’ll come out of this. I can’t wait for the first Corn flashback. Something tells me it’ll be hard for anyone not to guess who corn is after he speaks. Hur hur.
Loli saves the day!
So, Kyoko gets depressed, cries and the next morning stands up once again. BRING ON THE PINK JUMPSUITS!
