Mei-Chan no Shitsuji Episode 01
So, with a big WTF on my face, I watched the first episode of Mei-chan no Shitsuji. I heard it was good from a couple of people so I said ‘hey, why not?’ Besides, I could use a little fawning over those lines all butlers say. Of course, if I wanted a butler, I’d still choose Kuroshitsuji’s Sebastian buuut ~ S-ranked Rihito is fine.
Mei’s a poor megane udon girl. One day, bamm bam boom! Her parents die in an accident. A bishie butler shows up (i.e: Rihito). The udon shop blows up. And ~ Mei’s forced to go to a super rich bitchojou-sama school because it turns out she the heiress to a important family. Talk about your crazy lives. Anyways, I understand what’s entertaining about the drama. The bishies. The bitches. The comedy. The foreshadowing to what I hope will be a nice plot. Hm, very interesting.
Well, there is also the romance. Because there’s always romance. From episode one, it’s obvious. Mameshiba, Rihito’s not-a-butler little brother, has probably had a crush on Mei since forever. Then there’s Rihito himself, whose feelings will probably develop through the course of the drama. I mean, he’s devoted himself to Mei already so that’s a start. Since it’s episode one, I’m not sure who to root for just yet. But, in all the dramas I’ve watched, I’ve seen both Mameshiba’s actor and Rihito’s actor. Mameshiba’s from Princess Princess D and Kamen Rider Den-O. And Rihito’s from Aboslute Boyfriend and Hana-Kimi. I love both of their characters already. I’m sort of 90% sure the end guy will be Rihito but, because of that, I’m leaning towards Mameshiba.
Most of the episode had Mei integrating into the school. In the end, she decided to stay at ojou-sama heaven (or hell?) to become a proper lady all for the sake of having her parents buried together and not separately. Obviously, the whole Hongo family thing is going to be important later on. Along with miss Head Lady whom I’m already starting to hate … well, I did enjoy the glarefest between her butler Shinobu and Rihito though. Hm, glarefests …
I also read I couple of chapters of the manga. Well, uh, I prefer the drama. The manga is a little too … shojo. Or maybe I like the whole Ojou-sama school setting rather than ordinary whiny little loli becomes special because she gets a butler and because it turns she’s an heiress. BORING! Plus, I dislike manga Mei. She’s a crybaby. She looks like a frikken 6-year old. She’s too naive and innocent. Ugh. Manga Mameshiba is a pretty boy. Huh. I think I like him better badass. BUT! One thing I prefer about the manga is the brothers spatting at each other. Plus, with the manga, it’s easier to think “screw Mei, give me RihitoxMameshiba” than in the drama where I actually like Mei.
(Gosh, I can’t believe I actually miss writing these commentary posts. The break was a good idea. If school isn’t too overwhelming, I might blog some spring anime now and then. I’m still doing the Spring Preview. It’s about 30% done. I’ll have it posted eventually.)
